I find the star schema as a logical model for business relationships to be kind of clumsy and counterintuitive. Mostly because business users and analysts are well versed in data from Excel use and also from building reports in source systems.

So they are already close to the data and they way they think about it and use it is usually in a denormalized form. They middle step of the star schema seems dated.

In the end, do what works, just make sure to keep evolving, checking your assumptions, and, most of all, staying open to ideas that aren’t your own.
